Australia Awards Short Course Human Resources Leadership for Future Work

Project Description

With the accelerating pace of social and economic change the HR discipline has rapidly evolved from being transactional to transformational. HR professionals need to understand the relationships between business strategy, organisational change strategy and HRM strategy and their role in each. The primary purpose of the course is to provide Participants with the knowledge and tools required to make evidence-based decisions about HR strategies, styles and approaches appropriate for their respective agencies, associations and organisations/industries. The program equipped participants from the Mekong region to better respond to the needs of their organisations/industry sectors, in an environment of complex labour market challenges and the devolution of responsibility for HR development.

Project Personnel and Beneficiaries

The Participants’ came from organisations and government agencies across the Mekong including Advanced Bank of Asia Limited (ABA Bank), Australian Embassy in Laos, Lao Brewery Company, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and Shan Community College.

Outcomes to Date

Each participant needed to complete an Award Project on completion of the course to implement their learnings from the program.

To date some of the successful projects have included, Reducing the challenges in compensation and benefits in community-based organisations, Talent Acquisition in the Public Sector in Vietnam, and Change Training Development Program.

Project Significance

The program aligns with SDG goal 8, “Promote Sustained, Inclusive and Sustainable Economic Growth, Full and Productive Employment and Decent Work for All” focusing on the knowledge and tools required to make evidence based decisions about HR strategies, styles and approaches in the complex labour market.

The program also had a Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) component, contributing to SDG goal 5 “Gender Equality”. The program included sessions conveying the gender equality, disability and social inclusion challenges of HR development and incorporate experiences and providing solutions.
