Project Description
The work completed to achieve a SAGE Cygnet Award aimed to improve outcomes for people of diverse genders, bodies and sexualities (DGBS/LGBTQIA+) staff and students at the university through a range of initiatives such as:
– Increasing the availability of LGBTQIA+ inclusion resources and professional development frequency
– Improving access to the LGBTQIA+ Ally Network to support LGBTQIA+ staff and students
– Removing system and process barriers for trans and gender diverse people
– Increasing the visibility of role models, service promotion, pride branding, and engagement on social media
– Improving data for monitoring and evaluation

Outcomes to Date
The submission highlights several key achievements on LGBTQIA+ inclusion over the past few years including:
– a 344% score increase in the Australian Workplace Equality Index (AWEI) benchmarking framework on LGBTQIA+ inclusion since 2017
– an increase in the number of LGBTQIA+ Allies by 334% since 2019
– an average improvement of 21% in the Employee Engagement Survey results from non-binary staff between 2021 and 2022
– improved experiences of respect for LGBTQIA+ staff compared to 2017.
Project Significance
The work completed towards this award contributes to achieving gender equality, particularly for LGBTQIA+ women and reducing inequalities for LGBTQIA+ people.
