Islamic feminism and Process relational Theology

Adis Duderija

Project Description

The primary project or activity is an initial exploration of the potential contributions of process relational theology to Islamic feminist theology. This engagement aims to significantly enrich existing efforts to reinterpret Islamic tradition through a gender-justice lens. It seeks to challenge traditional hierarchical views of divine-human relationships and gender dynamics found in mainstream Islamic theology, which often have strong patriarchal tendencies, by emphasizing a dynamic, interconnected, and responsive God.

Project Personnel and Beneficiaries

Muslim societies globally, specifically Muslim empowerment groups.
NGOS ,policy makers and academics working on women empowerment issues in Muslim contexts

Outcomes to Date

I published one article in December of 2024. I went to a workshop in Istanbul on a related subject matter where I presented additional conference paper.
I also co nected KADEM with a major feminist oganisation in indonesia ( KUPI) to work on future common project. Publication of article in the KADEM Journal of Women’s Studies, Volume 10, Issue 2 https://dergipark.org.tr/en/pub/kademkad/issue/89755/1567418

Project Significance

It helps with promoting gender justice in Muslim contexts. The article’s central theme of promoting gender equality and justice within Islamic contexts, challenging patriarchal interpretations, and advocating for women’s dignity and empowerment conceptually aligns with the spirit of SDG 5: “Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.”
