Project Description
The global demand for environmental engineers has risen significantly and is projected to continue as governments worldwide face increasing pressure to implement economic development programs that address pollution control and elimination, resource conservation and recovery, and achieving the SDGs. Environmental engineering the pathway to protecting the natural environment and its resources by ensuring that we minimise the adverse effect we may have on it. Griffith University’s Master of Environmental Engineering and Pollution Control program will develop an understanding of complex environmental problems and issues and of the challenges facing environmental sustainability. The students will learn to design creative engineering solutions and manage key projects associated with environmental protection in areas such as solid and hazardous waste management, air quality monitoring and control, water and wastewater treatment, and renewable energy. The students will develop the skills to incorporate sustainability concepts into engineering work practices from various discipline backgrounds.
Project Personnel and Beneficiaries
The Masters program is undertaken by domestic as well as international students from the public sector (e.g. federal, state and local government), the private sector (e.g. manufacturing and service industries, consulting firms), as well as recent graduates planning a career in areas related to environmental engineering
Outcomes to Date
The students undertaking the Masters program gain advanced and integrated understanding of a complex body of knowledge about current and emerging issues in environmental protection and control apply them towards finding sustainable solutions.
Project Significance
The program consists of specialised courses in Cleaner Production and Circular Economy, Project Management, Industrial Water and Wastewater Treatment, Hydrologic and Hydraulic Modelling, Solid Waste Management, Water and Wastewater Treatment Fundamentals, Air Quality Monitoring and Control, Advanced Water and Wastewater Engineering, Renewable Energy Systems, Site Remediation and Rehabilitation, Environmental Management Systems and Hazardous Waste Management. These courses are collectively linked to SDGs 3, 6, 7, 8, 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15.
