Project Description
The purpose of the three-level Pathway Program is to provide an easily accessible, foundational leadership development program for water professionals and practitioners to strengthen their ability to exert influence and drive positive change in their projects and workplaces, and to address our most significant water-related challenges.
The Pathway Program Level 1 course runs over 10 consecutive weeks online. Each week covers a range of topics that correspond to common challenges faced by emerging water leaders globally. Activities include key concept videos and readings, interview videos with experienced water leaders, discussion and reflection activities and individual quizzes to test knowledge. At the end of the course, participants must submit a reflection workbook and an individual leadership development plan that will encourage them to apply lessons learned from the course.
Project Personnel and Beneficiaries
Level 1 of the Pathway Program aims to help any professional or practitioner in the water sector to build their confidence, knowledge and skill in exerting exert influence to drive change towards more sustainable outcomes:
• A highly diverse range of water professionals and practitioners in terms of their professional background, geographic setting, organisational type, water management focus, leadership experience, seniority and demographic profile.
• Aspiring, emergent or established water leaders. Importantly, the level 1 course seeks to include people who may not yet see themselves as a ‘water leader’, but nonetheless want to learn how to exert influence, drive positive change in the sector, and ‘make a difference’.
• Established water leaders who want to continue their learning process and build their leadership capacity at an individual and group level.
• Organisations that recognise the importance of building leadership capacity to the delivery of their strategic objectives.
Outcomes to Date
85 Participants completed the first delivery of course was completed on 11/11/24. Formal feedback still to be assessed. However, informal feedback is very positive. Participants must complete a leadership development plan at the end of the course, which they will use to develop their practical leadership abilities
The Pathway Program level 1 is really inspiring, relevant, very carefully designed professional leadership course, very suitable for people involved on job. This course provides good opportunity to establish networking with professionals from several geographic regions, connect with global level experts and really contributes to enhance the level of confidence and encourage to establish the habit of reading, learning and expanding the social network and grow as Water Sector Leader.
Project Significance
Effective water leadership is a key component to successfully achieve SDG 6 Water and Sanitation: The course is aimed at emerging leaders in the water industry; SDG 11 Sustainable cities and communities: many participants are directly involved in delivering safe and sustainable water supply to communities and the course promotes an inclusive and sustainable approach to delivering these services; SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions: The course promotes ethical and inclusive leadership that can lead to strengthened institutions.
