Griffith University supports the Sustainable Development Goals

CAUL Open Educational Resource (OER) Collective

Griffith Library

Please note that this is an on-going project.

Project Description

Since 2022 Griffith Library has been part of The Council of Australian University Librarians (CAUL) Open Educational Resource (OER) Collective. The OER Collective provides a publishing platform, workflows, copyright and resource support and an academic Community of Practice, which enables publication of Open Educational Textbooks at the individual University level and available to all.

Project Personnel and Beneficiaries

Griffith Library, CAUL, Textbook authors and editors

Students, Course Convenors, teaching staff, anyone interested in the topic

Outcomes to Date

We are pleased to announce that text Leading in Health and Social Care: Leadership Concepts and Practices to Strengthen Health and Social Care Services is now published and accessible to all.

The text is published under a Creative Commons BY-NC licence, meaning that it is free to access and adapt for non-commercial uses. The text is authored by academics from many Australian universities, under the editorial guidance of several Griffith academics (and one previous Griffith academic). The text will become an assigned reading in multiple courses, including courses at Griffith and several other Australian universities.

Project Significance

This has been one action in a deliberate equity strategy to ensure that all students have access to the materials they need for learning. We will continue to promote Open Education Resources and encourage the development of Open Access Textbooks written by Griffith academics, providing students with resources that “reside in the public domain or are under copyright that have been released under an open license that permits no-cost access, re-use, repurpose, adaptation, and redistribution by others” (UNESCO, 2019).

These openly available educational resources help to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education by removing the financial barriers to accessing educational resources and textbooks. (Goal 4)

It also helps to ensure public access to information which helps support participatory decision-making. (Goal 16.10)
