Project Description
I hosted a Griffith University/Australian Repair Network tent at the Brisbane City Council Green Heart Fair -a sustainability initiative of the BCC and I also presented a session on the Right to Repair movement and Repair Cafes
Project Personnel and Beneficiaries
The key people were people involved in the Australian Repair Network based at Griffith University – staff Leanne Wisema, Kanchana Kariyawsam, and student Lilia Ben Denkhill participated on the day as well as a number of community volunteers supporting the event
Outcomes to Date
Participation in BCC Green Hear Fair was very successful. I hosted a Griffith University/Australian Repair Network tent and used this to provide education about Griffith’s contribution to the UN SDGsand well as educate the public about the Right to Repair movement and Repair Cafes… a few hundred people visited out tent to learn about our activities and also listened to a presentation I gave at lunchtime on the Home Stage about Repair Cafes and the Right to Repair – a very successful day with a lot of interest and support from the public
Project Significance
Repair and reuse is central to UNSDG 12 and 13 – this event raised awareness of the work of Griffith Uni and the Australian Repair Network and the Right to Repair movement and Repair cafe movement more generally
