Redland’s Koala Conservation Action Plan (2016-2021)

Project Description

Measure the effectiveness of VMS for drivers to slow down in koala conservation areas. Assess the effectiveness of an awareness campaign to improve residents’ attitudes, awareness, and knowledge towards koalas in their community. Examine how response to koala conservation initiatives improves when citizens are exposed to and participate within multiple initiatives.

Outcomes to Date

68.4% of residents had increased awareness of the Koala safety messaging. Consistent education of fatality causes over the 4 years has overcome knowledge as a barrier towards action.

Project Significance

Redland’s Koala Conservation Action Plan acknowledges the importance of koala conservation, with Redland City Council implementing a series of activities to improve koala conservation aiming to reduce koala deaths, protect and improve koala habitats and engage the community in making a difference
