“No Bats, No Me” – Development of Flying Fox Communication Collatoral for the Byron Shire Council

Project Description

Development of advertising collateral for community testing and stakeholder workshop to assist the Bryon Shire Council in the co-design and development of educational programs and materials. Understanding the facts about bats and their role in the environment is key to their survival.

Project Personnel and Beneficiaries

The project, which was funded by WIRES, ran for 10 months and during this time Council staff spoke to children in years four to six from nine schools and a home-schooling group, providing information about flying-foxes and their crucial role in the natural environment.

Outcomes to Date

Improved understanding of these mammals across the community. Development of educational projects for the Byron Shire Council community

Project Significance

Understanding the role bats play in pollinating the bush, and the importance of saving their habitat from land clearing, ensures their survival and creates awareness within the community as to the importance of co-habitation. “The ‘No Bat No Me’ project also considers what a future without bats and therefore native forests and animals would be like for humans
