Influence of Climate Change on Ocean Waves

Nick Cartwright (Griffith Lead)

Project Description

An international collaboration to collate and analyse all available ocean wave climate projections to quantify projected changes and asscoaited levels of uncertainty

Project Personnel and Beneficiaries

Coastal communities world wide
Informs planning to future proof coastal communities against a changing ocean wave climate

Outcomes to Date

Multiple scientific publications. One of the more notable being:

Morim, J. et al., 2019. Robustness and uncertainties in global multivariate wind-wave climate projections. Nature Climate Change, 9(9): 711-718. DOI:10.1038/s41558-019-0542-5

Project Significance

Understanding climate-driven impacts on the multivariate global wind-wave climate is paramount to effective offshore/coastal
climate adaptation planning.
The findings have been published in high impact scientific literature and has also informed the most recent IPCC report
