Becoming Climate Ready

Cheryl Briars

Please note that this is an on-going project.

Project Description

CRI are developing a micro-credential that addresses climate risk management and will help build national climate literacy, capability, and capacity at individual and organisational level.

It will provide foundational knowledge and build staff capability around climate risk management; including interpreting the science and impacts of climate change, identify and understand types of climate risk and opportunities, how to integrate climate risk within the corporate risk management process, fundamentals of building a strategy and action plan and how to consider monitoring, reporting, and evaluating progress on climate risk management activities.

Local councils are at the heart of the community, and the services provided are critical to support the foundations for people across Australia to build a prosperous economy, liveable communities, and a healthy environment. Proactively managing climate risk through adaptation and transitioning to a net zero economy, can not only help to respond and manage climate risk, but also take advantage of the opportunities that arise from a changing climate.

Project Personnel and Beneficiaries

Executive and senior managers of Local Government across Australia.

Outcomes to Date

Draft modules that are being developed in Sway with the Professional Learning Hub at Griffith.

Project Significance

The Climate Ready Initiative have been involved in producing climate risk management guidance for local and state government. A clear need has been identified to build capacity and capability internally within organisations through training, to support progress on climate risk management.
