Australia Awards Short Course in Public Transport Management in Metropolitan Areas

Project Description

The Public Transport Management in Metropolitan Areas Short Course complemented the Indonesia-Australia Partnership for Infrastructure (KIAT) program, the program focused on upskilling government counterparts to improve urban mobility outcomes through Transit Oriented Development (TOD) which promotes the use of public transport systems.

The course also supported the preparation of Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans DKI Jakarta and the metropolitan areas of Kedungsepur, Mamminasata and Sarbagita along with Bogor City, Depok City, Tangerang City and Bekasi City.

Outcomes to Date

Each participant was required to conduct a project, devising a plan on how new leadership skills and knowledge were implemented upon returning to work duties.

Some Participant projects covered topics such as:
• Push and Pull Strategy: Supporting Policy for The Implementation of Fare Integration Study Case: DKI Jakarta
• Integrated Design as a part of Transit Oriented Development Planning at Jurangmangu Station
• Assessment Tool of Transport Infrastructure Project Investment for Central Budget Office
• Angkot Reformation Program in Medan Metropolitan Areas (1st Phase) • Integrating ”The Past” and “The Future” –
BRT Development in Medan
• Initiating Public Transport Database Management System Framework as a Policy Tool to Improve Public Transport Services

Project Significance

The program comprised of four modules covering urban transport planning and management, stakeholder management, technology and innovation and transport Infrastructure financing and development, assisting Indonesia’s emerging leaders in further developing urban transport management in Indonesia.

A team of experts worked progressively through this content, providing research evidence, working with practitioners, government agencies and industry and providing one-on-one and group mentoring support throughout implementation. Where the need exists, tailored sessions can be arranged for participants with specific requirements, drawing on the team’s extensive Australian, Indonesian and international networks.
