Project Description

Undergraduate course on Catchment Hydrology which is core in BEng (Civil) and BEng (Environmental)

Water supply and flood mitigation is taught in the form of flood frequency analysis and flood routing through reservoirs for flood mitigation and sequent peak analysis to ananalyse a water supply reservoir. These are taught and then practiced in a tutorial and is then assessed in a major assignment evaluating the stage 3 upgrade to the Hinze Dam wall (Advancetown reservoir)

Outcomes to Date

The course is a core course and enrolments have ranged from 100-180 in recent years. This is a large number of future engineers and scientists who have developed knowledge in these areas.
The course also attracts up to 20 or so exchange students from Norway.

Project Significance

Develops our students’ knowledge and skills in relation to the SGDs.
The students are our future Civil and Environmental Engineers and Environmental Scientists so they will eventually take this knowledge out into practice.
